Freerunning is best described as an art that defines one’s individualism through movement. Anywhere we go in life there are obstacles. The freerunner overcomes these obstacles in their own individual expression of motion. Everyone uses whatever skill they see fit. When going from one place to another, the freerunner takes the path that defines them and they pay no attention to society.

For example, a freerunner’s perspective of an obstacle could be a wall that stands in their intended path. The freerunner learns to overcome this wall and get around it in their own unique way. The freerunner begins this way by overcoming obstacles in the physical world. But the true freerunner takes this to other parts in their life other than just the physical realm.

The path of the freerunner starts with a question. That question being, “What is my limit?” Many times they think that they have found an answer. For example, a move that is too complicated, or a wall that is too high can serve as a temporary answer. But soon the freerunner overcomes this move by training or gets over that wall by improving their technique. The freerunner searches for this answer continually in all parts of their life until they realize that freerunning isn’t about pushing your limits, its about realizing that you don’t have any.

They unlock something deep in their mind. Then everything changes. They aspire to be who they want, regardless of social norm and they begin to live their dreams. They realize that anything is possible if they work hard enough at it.

I know this path because I travel it. I have found lifelong friends through freerunning. Mostly because freerunners aren’t brought together because we are all on the same path but because we are all on different ones. The movement and self-expression opened my eyes and I was able to find my true self. Through freerunning, I realized that the person I was trying to be all my life was the person that I already was. I realized that fear is the only thing that can keep us from our dreams, This is our purpose. Its not about having no fear, but rather overcoming the fears that we do have.

Freerunning didn’t just change my life, it became it.

I could not be more proud of my bro. His passion for doing what he loves should be an example to us all to do what we love and not let anyone tell us we can’t. You rock!! I love you.
